Little Wandle Phonics
We are excited to share that at Russells Hall Primary School, we have adopted the Little Wandle Phonics programme as our primary approach to teaching phonics. This systematic and structured phonics programme is designed to support our pupils in developing their reading and writing skills effectively.
What is Little Wandle Phonics?
Little Wandle Phonics is a comprehensive phonics scheme that focuses on teaching pupils the essential skills they need to become confident readers and writers. The programme is based on the latest research and best practises in phonics instruction, ensuring that our pupils receive high-quality teaching that is tailored to their needs.
Key Features of Little Wandle Phonics:
Systematic Approach: The programme introduces phonics in a structured way, allowing pupils to build on their knowledge step by step. Each lesson is carefully designed to reinforce previously taught sounds and introduce new ones.
Engaging Resources: Little Wandle provides a range of engaging resources, including decodable books that match the phonics knowledge of our pupils. This ensures that they can practise their reading skills with texts that are appropriate for their level.
Daily Phonics Sessions: All pupils participate in daily phonics sessions, where they learn to identify sounds, blend them to read words, and segment words for spelling. This consistent practise is crucial for developing fluency in reading and writing.
Support for All Learners: The programme includes strategies for supporting pupils who may need additional help, ensuring that every child can keep up with their peers. We are committed to providing extra support for those who require it.
Parental Involvement: We believe that your involvement is key to your child's success. Little Wandle provides resources and guidance for parents to support phonics learning at home, and we encourage you to engage with these materials.
We are confident that Little Wandle Phonics will enhance our pupils' literacy skills and foster a love of reading and writing. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about how you can support your child's phonics journey at home, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support in your child's education. Together, we can help our pupils thrive!
