Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Information

Introduction

At Russells Hall Primary School, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for our youngest pupils. Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) policy reflects our dedication to meeting the statutory requirements of the EYFS framework, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to learn and develop to their full potential.

Aims

  • To provide a high-quality early years education that meets the needs of all children.
  • To create a safe and welcoming environment where children feel valued and secure.
  • To promote the development of the whole child, including their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills.
  • To foster positive relationships with parents and carers, encouraging their involvement in their child’s education.

This policy is based on the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (2024) and adheres to the requirements set out in the following documents:

  • The Childcare Act 2006
  • The Children and Families Act 2014
  • The Equality Act 2010
  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023)
  •

Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements

  1. Child Safety: We will take all necessary steps to ensure children are safe and well. This includes having a designated safeguarding lead responsible for child protection and safeguarding issues.

  2. Health and Wellbeing: We will promote good health through healthy eating, physical activity, and emotional wellbeing. All staff will be trained in first aid and will follow health and safety guidelines.

  3. Staff Suitability: All adults who have contact with children will be suitable and appropriately vetted. This includes conducting background checks and ensuring all staff have the necessary qualifications and training.

  4. Behaviour Management: We will support and understand children’s behaviour, using positive reinforcement and strategies that promote self-regulation and respect for others.

  5. Policies and Procedures: We will maintain written policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safeguarding and welfare requirements. These policies will be reviewed regularly and updated as necessary.

Learning and Development Requirements

  1. Curriculum: We will deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that covers the seven areas of learning and development as outlined in the EYFS framework:

    • Communication and Language
    • Physical Development
    • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
    • Literacy
    • Mathematics
    • Understanding the World
    • Expressive Arts and Design
  2. Assessment: We will carry out ongoing assessments of children’s progress and development. This will inform our planning and help us to tailor learning experiences to meet individual needs.

  3. Partnership with Parents: We will actively engage with parents and carers, providing regular updates on their child’s progress and encouraging their involvement in school activities. We will also offer opportunities for parents to share their insights and concerns.

  4. Transition: We will support children in their transition into and out of the EYFS, ensuring that they feel secure and confident as they move to the next stage of their education.

Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed annually by the leadership team to ensure its effectiveness and compliance with current legislation. Feedback from staff, parents, and other stakeholders will be considered during the review process.
